The Church
What the Bible says about the Church:
Ephesians, chapter 1
10: That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in
Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him.
22: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23: Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
Colossians, chapter 1
13: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear
Son:
14: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and
for him:
17: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in
all things he might have the preeminence.
Matthew, chapter 16
15: He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16: And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17: And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Ephesians 2
20 Having built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Ephesians, 3
15: Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
21: Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Ephesians, chapter 5
23: For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the
saviour of the body.
24: Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every
thing.
25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27: That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing;
but that it should be holy and without blemish.
29: For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the
church:
Colossians, chapter 2
10: And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
19: And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered,
and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Romans, chapter 12
4: For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
1 Corinthians, chapter 12
12: For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13: For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be
bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14: For the body is not one member, but many.
15: If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16: And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17: If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18: But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19: And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20: But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21: And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have
no need of you.
22: Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more
abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24: For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked:
25: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for
another.
26: And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the
members rejoice with it.
27: Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28: And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after
that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1 Thessalonians, chapter 5
12: And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13: And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
Hebrews, chapter 13
7: Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith
follow, considering the end of their conversation.
17: Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they
that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Ephesians, chapter 4
11: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
Acts, chapter 2
41: Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them
about three thousand souls.
42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and
in prayers.
43: And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44: And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45: And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did
eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47: Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as
should be saved.
Psalms, 133
1: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
